Lake Malawi's fishermen
The canoe, known in Malawi as a bwato, is essential to Lake Malawi's fishermen. MultiChoice Malawi recently sponsored the third DStv Bwato Race at Senga Bay, Salima, as part of its drive to help empower local fishing communities. All prizes were designed to help build their businesses, with the winner of the singles competition receiving fishing nets and cash. The race attracted more than 3 000 people, including senior government officials
Teen title Seventeen hosted its annual internship programme in June. The 17 Academy is an initiative where teen girls participate in producing the magazine. During the three-week programme, 16 girls worked alongside the magazine's team, writing articles, styling fashion and beauty shoots and creating amazing layouts for the October issue.
